Jonathan Aberman is the managing director of Amplifier Ventures, a venture capital firm focusing on government funded technology in the Washington, DC region.
Jonathan has been in the venture capital industry for more than 20 years, helping start many successful technology companies. He is an active leader in the development of entrepreneurship and the founder and Chair of FounderCorps a regional not for profit promoting technology entrepreneurship. Jonathan is the founder and Managing Director of TandemNSI, a public private partnership that promotes national security technology commercialization. He has an active consulting practice, assisting a broad range of federal and state governments in entrepreneurship and company formation.
He has a weekly column in the Washington Post.
Prior to his career as a member of the venture capital industry, Jonathan was a corporate lawyer and an investment banker and trader. working in the financial services industry at Goldman Sachs and Donaldson Lufkin Jenrette and was a partner in technology law firms Fenwick & West, Fish and Richardson and Pillsbury.
Jonathan has been a technology policy advisor to both Democratic and Republican state and federal government leaders and has produced a number of White Papers and reports that relate to entrepreneurship, venture capital, technology commercialization and regional economic development.
A member of the faculty of the Robert H. Smith School of Business, Jonathan teaches a wide range of entrepreneurship classes to graduate and undergraduate students. Jonathan is a regular guest on Washington Business Report, and is a regular contributor to Huffington Post and Washington Business Journal.
He has a BA/MA in law from Cambridge University, an LLM in Corporate Law from New York University, an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and a BA in Political Science/Economics from George Washington University.
Jonathan plays lead guitar in a regional rock band – Two Car Living Room – and denies any suggestion that his business activities are merely an excuse to acquire capital to purchase more guitars.
